Krishna nee begane baaro

[I wrote this after praying paying a visit to the renowned Udupi Sri Krishna temple. What I saw there, or rather, couldn't see appalled me.]

"Krishna!

I do not comprehend my sin:
I know not why they've thrown me in
this dark, dank cage and thrown the keys
far away into the open seas.

"Krishna!
When I first laid eyes on Thee,
Thy Sanctum Sanctorum horrified me!
Thy condition was a complete farce:
They'd kept Thee locked 'hind iron bars,
with lizards crawling o'er Thy Body;
The illumination work was shoddy-
I'd hardly spied Thy Holy Face
when the priest ordered me quicken my pace!

"Krishna!
I took pity on Thy plight,
so I came back to Thee that night;
hidden from the Temple guard,
I stole Thee from the Temple yard.
Hoisting skyward Thine black stone,
guided by the Moon that shone
and painted the World pearly white-
I ran with Thee with all my might!"
_

"Krishna!
I was praying to Thee next morn,
when some men, all full of scorn,
accused me of thieving Thy golden Crown;
They caught me and hung me upside down,
and beat me till my skin and back
were darker than Thine Idol black.
Now I am in this cold prison,
knowing neither Sun nor season.

"Krishna! I once was Thy saviour-
Lord, it's time to return that favour!
Krishna nee begane baaro:
Remove me from this dreary cage!"
Krishna came and rescued him:
He died that night, and not of age.
